Random Music Shuffle Quiz #1

Published November 30, 2013 by sophiachandler

I was bored today so I decided to do a shuffle quiz. You’re supposed to put your MP3, iPod, or anything else that plays music and answer the following questions with the song. For the next answer, simply press next on your device.

What are you?
Jet Lag by Simple Plan ft. Natasha Bedingfield
(…no comment there.)

Describe yourself.
Love Somebody by Maroon 5
(Huh?!)

What do you think of your friends?
Halo by Beyonce
(Awwwww~)

What do your friends think of you?
Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen
(Nooooo…. just no.)

What song was made for you?
Little Talks
(:DDD I love this song!)

What will be played at your graduation (or was supposed to play)?
Keep Holding On by Avril Lavigne
(I think this is quite appropriate 🙂 Stand strong and keep holding on because everyone will be here for you!)

What song will be played (or was supposed to be played) at your wedding?
Marry Me by Jason Derulo
(My iTunes shuffle knows what it’s talking about… but I think this is more of a song for a proposal… not complaining though!)

What song will be played at your funeral?
There She Goes by Taio Cruz
(The lyrics aren’t very appropriate…. the title kinda is 🙂 )

What do you feel right now?
Young Love by Jedward
(That’s actually what I’m thinking about… but I’m not crushing on anyone currently.)

Say something wise.
True Love by P!nk ft. Lily Allen
(The lyrics are wise words…. kinda. Still a nice song.)

What’s your life like?
Hey Soul Sister by Train
(I haven’t met my soulmate yet…. 😦 )

What do you think of your love life?
Miss Movin’ On by Fifth Harmony
(I’ll admit that it is currently like that… 🙂 )

Describe your love.
Still Into You by Paramore
(Mebbeeeeeee….. *whistles innocently* but I love this song XDDD)

What do you think your children will be like?
Innocence by Avril Lavigne
(Innocent children~)

Describe your children.
Starships by Nicki Minaj
(This song has so many vulgarities I can’t even… *saddened*)

What do you think your parents are like?
Lights by Ellie Goulding
(… Lights is a song about child abuse. THIS IS NOT TRUE OF MY PARENTS)

Describe them.
Celebrate by MIKA ft. Pharrell Williams
(I wanna come home, to the only place I know, where the trees I planted grow… Definitely appropriate!)

What did you think of this quiz?
Payphone by Maroon 5
(Again, NO COMMENT)

What’s your favorite saying?
Astronaut by Simple Plan
(Again, huh?!?)

What makes you think of your life?
Heart Attack by Demi Lovato
(I don’t wanna die young… D: )

If I made another one with different questions, will you say when you take it?
Runaways by The Killers
(I promise I won’t run! 😉 )

Bye-bye!
Live My Life by Justin Bieber
(I’m off to go live my life y’all… by watching Josh Hutcherson on Comedy Central~)

Fairytales: Once Upon A Modern Time

Published November 29, 2013 by sophiachandler

This is yet another subject that I am currently interested in. I don’t know how it started, but I love reading books that have anything to do with fairytales. I used to read The Sisters Grimm and Half Upon A Time last year, all the time. The Sisters Grimm is especially fun to read – it’s a series of nine books featuring an eleven-year-old girl named Sabrina Grimm and her younger sister, Daphne, whose parents have mysteriously vanished. They are adopted by a woman who claims she is their grandmother, Granny Relda, and go to live with her in a strange town called Ferryport Landing. There, they discover that they are the descendants of the Grimm brothers, and the inhabitants in the town are all characters from fairytales.

The series was nice. I was sad when it ended 😦 Something else I’d like to read is the comic Fables, apparently about the characters of fairytales who are now living in the modern world. I’ve read the Wiki pages… some of the themes seem kind of…. I don’t know, gruesome? Not fairytales for kids if you ask me.

Fairytales don’t necessarily have to come in book form…

Once Upon A Time is an absolutely amazing TV show. It’s my absolute favorite. Ever. To ensure that no one in Fairytale Land – especially Snow White – had anymore “happily ever afters,” Evil Queen Regina cast a curse which trapped the fairytale characters, frozen in time, and brought them into the modern world. Although still alive, they had no knowledge of their former selves and were sleepwalking through life – ageless—for 28 years, until their savior arrived in the form of Emma Swan, who, unbeknownst to her, is actually Snow White and Prince Charming’s daughter.

Fun fact: in real life, Jennifer Morrison, who plays Emma, is best friends with Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays Snow White. Plus, Ginnifer Goodwin is engaged and expecting a baby with her fiance, Josh Dallas, who plays Prince Charming. Congratulations to the both of them! (Ginnifer Goodwin & Josh Dallas Expecting First Child)

Speaking of fairytale-themed books, I’ve just joined Goodreads! I love that website as much as I love Nameberry (which is saying a lot) and I can’t believe it took so long for me to click the Sign Up button. I’ve also recently discovered Shannon Hale, who wrote Princess Academy…. and I love the series.

If you want to recommend any other good fairytale-related reads to me, feel free to leave a recommendation in the comments! That would be greatly appreciated, because I’m running out of good reading material (although I am currently reading The Book Thief).

(Please excuse me for the lame title. I couldn’t think of anything else better to write at that point of time.)

The Power of FRUITS (and Their Unbelievable Cuteness)

Published November 28, 2013 by sophiachandler

I can’t believe I just discovered THIS:

This game is absolutely cute. It’s kinda like Candy Crush (or, how my best friend pronounces it, ‘Cahndy Crrrrrrrrush”), but instead of candy, you get fruits like the apple pictured above, strawberries, coconuts and a grape. Also, in Candy Crush you have to ‘swap’ the candy around, whereas in here you’re just connecting the fruits together. You can make horizontal, vertical and diagonal connections. I’ve just started playing, but it’s difficult to concentrate because WILL YOU LOOK AT THOSE FRUITS. Those are the cutest ever fruits I have ever seen in my whole entire life!
I’m chatting to CCJ on Facebook right now, and I have obsessed greatly over the cuteness of Juice Cubes. She thinks I’m high. T^T No one here understands the true greatness of Juice Cubes. Meh.
Here’s a related post on Juice Cubes: Juice Cubes: A well made Candy Crush clone
I’m currently trying to update my About page, and failing terribly at it too, so you shall see an updated version coming up soon…. hopefully.
On that happy note, I shall now take my leave! (Nope, no songs for you guys (or, should I say: y’all) today.)

Memories Aglow

Published November 27, 2013 by sophiachandler

I would have reblogged this from Kia’s blog, but I decided not to slack off and do my own narrative instead. Heh. 😛

Yesterday Kia and a friend hosted a barbecue for some of the kids in our grade at her home. Only it wasn’t much of a barbecue, because it rained, and they couldn’t start the fire, so the fifty-something kids in attendance mucked around in the function room with the stereo that Kia’s dad brought down (and also with a soccer ball). Then some of them decided to jump in the pool, fully clothed (clearly, they were drunk on soda) and push others into the pool, including my best friend.

There’re several playgrounds in Kia’s home including swings and a rock-climbing thing and this superfantasticawesomesplendidamazing zipline which we all jumped on, and let me just tell you that it is so much fun hurtling down a rope with the wind in your face and your hair flying out behind you… and then reaching the end of the zipline, where the hook(?) that’s connecting the zipline to the seat strikes the stopper that prevents you from hitting the metal bar which is the end of the zipline, causing you to swing up high, and then travel back at a slower pace in the opposite direction, before coming to a stop.

And then at about eight we all feasted on marshmallows.

We didn’t get to roast them, because the fire died… T.T but marshmallows are soft and gooey and chewy even without being roasted so I didn’t really mind! 😀

I can’t really find anything else to say about it… it was all fun and magical and me being more chatty than usual, especially with some boys. The moment at the swings was when I got high on euphoria, because there’s something amazing about being high and free and almost flying off your seat when you’re trying to beat someone in a swing competition.

I went to bed pretty late, and when I woke up all I could remember were memories that were glowing at the edges, like someone snapped a picture of the whole thing with an Instagram filter.

I’m going to throw in some lyrics from a song that really symbolises how I feel about the whole thing…

“Three thousand miles away
Feels like it’s forever
Seems like yesterday
We were just running around town together”
~ 3000 Miles, Emblem3

I listen to Emblem3 too!

A Confession (and The Definition of Cute)

Published November 24, 2013 by sophiachandler

(Update on November 29, 2013… because I was high while doing this, so I’m adding some new stuff in!)

The title says it all: I have a confession to make. I have a pretty strange obsession… well, not so much of an obsession that you should put me on My Strange Addiction, but it is pretty strange…

I’m obsessed with baby names!

Yeah, names. Like Mason or Amanda or Fergus or Lilith. I’m pretty much obsessed. I bug my best friend about it all the time during Skype calls and on Facebook 😛 Ninety percent of the time I’m using the Internet, I go to Nameberry.

I first started being interested in names when I started writing an actual story. I can’t remember what it was about, but I do know that I spent quite a while poring over an old baby naming book my mum had used to name me when she was pregnant with me to search for the perfect name for my character. I think I named her Carolyn, eventually, but I was fascinated by all the meanings and the sounds and the images each name gave off.

I don’t know what exactly is so alluring about names… To me, each and every name has its own special character and personality. For example, I see Jane as a fresh college graduate with freckles, red curly hair and a dream to become a veterinarian. Weston is a surly teenager with hair the color of lemons and a sneer on his face, a cigarette in one hand, who very much wishes to get out of the miserable pit of hell he’s been living in after getting addicted to drugs. Alistair is (as he always is, in my mind’s eye) a kind old man with a love for books and reading and was, in his day, a famous author, who lives all alone in a big redbrick mansion up the hill near a nearby village. And Imogen Hope is an eleven-year-old sole heir to a five-star hotel chain currently run by her grandfather (her parents died when she was two), who mollycoddles her, leaving her a spoilt, sulky girl with strawberry blonde hair tied up in a ponytail and blue eyes.

Sorry, I can’t help it… 😦 I’m repeating this, but, behind every name there is a story… this is from Appellation Mountain, one of my favorite name blogs run by Abby Sandel. I mean story as in, a background, a character, an appearance, a personality, someone. I’m seeing a lot of name blogs like Appellation Mountain recently… thinking of beginning one! I think I might do posts on this topic on this blog too…

And now I discuss the definition of cute!

Recently, someone told me I was ‘cute’. *blushes* That’s the first time someone’s said that to me! And then today I was looking through Yahoo! Answers, and I found a question asking if the definition of cute was ‘ugly but adorable’.

How can something be ugly but adorable? ><

Image
(photo taken from No Title Needed)

okay, maybe that one’s not so ugly ._.

Anyways, feel free to leave any comments if you want to discuss this 🙂

~Sophia

P.S. 10 followers! Maybe that’s not such a big deal to some of you but it sure is to me ^^

P.P.S. The ‘someone’ who said I was ‘cute’ was a boy.

This Isn’t Much Of A Post

Published November 22, 2013 by sophiachandler

Today was the day of reckoning – the day, that is, when we got back our much-dreaded result slips of the latest major exam. The examination is much like the SAT, only, it decides which high school you can enter.

It’s been almost six hours since I’ve queued up in the entrance hall with its stale air and the putrid smell of sweat wafting into my nostrils – but enough of the graphic descriptions! Not that I wasn’t satisfied with my score, it was pretty high, but it wasn’t what I’d expected to get. Some of my friends weren’t satisfied with their scores, others were (they’d even bragged about it with their heads held up high).

And then after that my parents and two of my close friends and their parents and one of my close friends’ brother and I went together to IKEA to have lunch and continue their deep conversation about who was the most good-looking guy in our grade, or something. Sometimes I don’t understand why adults talk about awkward stuff.

IKEA’s meatballs are yummy~

I was reading this really sweet manga (Watashi ni XX Shinasai, in case you’re wondering!) and I’m only on chapter thirteen out of the current 51 chapters available, but the boy is so HAWT ❤ sorry but I couldn’t help myself ^^ hehe! There’s still a slightly disturbing idea of Incest, because (spoiler alert!) her cousin has been in love with her for a really long time…

I thought I’d throw in a random quote from the current song I’m listening to now:

“The feelings got lost in my lungs
They’re burning, I’d rather be numb
And there’s no one else to blame
So scared I’ll take off and run
I’m flying too close to the sun
And I’ll burst into flames”

If you’re a Lovatic, you can probably guess which song this is… 😉

This Feeling Called… Loneliness?

Published November 20, 2013 by sophiachandler

I don’t know what to call this feeling I have.

I imagine that we are all on a tiny landmass out at sea, my friends and whoever’s talking to them in the Facebook chat and me. And I know this seems silly, but I imagine that I’m standing at the very edge of the island, watching them have fun and laugh and goof around and I’m just being me, unsure, shy, awkward, waiting for someone to come along and talk to me.

I try to immerse myself amongst the crowd, but my efforts bounce off them and they’re shaking me off, brushing me, a single speck on their clean shirts, off their shoulders. And I imagine that I’m pushed to the very edge, and the part which I’m standing on is breaking away from the mainland and I’m crying out to rejoin the group, but they’re not listening. I try one last time, in desperation, to grab the shoulder of a friend, but she glances at me with her cool grey eyes and shrugs nonchalantly, shaking me off, running back into the group to rejoin her friends.

I imagine it’s all a dream, but it’s not.
